Tallahassee’s solar efforts are numerous and varied with a lot of photovoltaic (PV) equipment going in on City property:
- The McLean Park Pool: The PV array is finished, all but the paperwork.
- Wade Wehunt Pool PV and Pool Heating: The drawings/permit package is in preparation.
- Levy Park Pool: The structural design is being prepared.
- Trousdale Pool thermal water heating/pool heating: first steps are being taken.
- Trousdale Pool PV: Specs for revamp have been developed.
- Schools On Solar:
- Oakridge Elementary School is finished.
- "Montford Middle School" (out by Robert Elementary) is next.
- Solar water heating to be installed on City fire stations: proposals are coming in
- Antique Car Museum SMA web portal: PV Education-station to be developed in themuseum for public viewing. City financial assist to tie in the ten PV inverters; museum to provide big-screen TV which will monitor solar performance.
- Tallahassee Community College solar training curriculum will first entail 1 week PV, 1 week thermal solar training. Aim there is to develop a 2-year degree track in Renewable Energy (green-collar jobs training)
- Capital City Office Complex PV array (City-owned): like Trousdale, diagnosis and specs for revamp are about ready. Have some dead or problem inverters there.
- Recent private solar projects include: Capital Health Plan (25 kw); Minion job (5 kw); Mad Dog offices (13 kw); ProBank (10 kw); Bill Harold (5 kw); Mark Repasky (3.1 kw);
- StarMetro bus stop PV (for lighting): is under way; installer selected.
- Civic Center: A recent newspaper article describes a possible solar installation.
- Governor's Mansion: Specs being developed for solar thermal installations with gas/tankless backup.
- Smart Metering: Possibilities are being worked on to install PV-powered smart-meter-system "collectors" (meter signallers) in Gadsden/Wakulla counties and other areas outside Tallahassee’s electric territory.
